As a small business owner, you need to be visible.
One way to do this is to have your business featured in the media.
This brings you wider exposure and helps position you as an expert.
Janneke van Heugten, founder of VIDM (Vaker in de Media) shares her expert tips about how to get in the media more often.

After we shot the video Janneke shared some additional tips with me.
1) You Don’t Have to Know Everything
Knowing a specific part about your industry is more than enough. You do not have to know everything in order to be interviewed about a topic. Make the story about what you do know.
2) Have an Opinion
People are interested in hearing from people who take stand on an issue. Don’t be afraid to have an opinion and share it.
3) Make it Easy for the Journalists
When you contact journalists be brief and concise. They are busy and need to know quickly if your story is right for them. Pick out the juiciest part of your story and share that. Make it easy for journalists to pay attention to you.
I hope these tips have inspired you to take action to get yourself in the media.

Stephanie I particularly like your tips #1 & 2- you don’t have to know everything about a topic to have an opinion about it. Vivian Acquah had this conversation with me a few days ago, reminding me that I can have an opinion about something, even though I’m not an expert in that field. And to be open about sharing that opinion. So 2 people for whom I have great respect, further spurred my personal growth, within the same week! Thank you!
So happy to hear Janneke’s tips resonate with you, Mary Jane! Looking forward to seeing you in the media more often. Appreciate your warm words, thank you.
