Not all Small Business Owners enjoy marketing. In fact, many struggle with marketing and find it difficult to do consistently.
Emmy McCarthy of Emmy McCarthy Consulting has some practical marketing tips that you won’t mind implementing. In fact, you might even enjoy doing them.

Great video! With wise and valuable info.
Thanks Stephanie and Emmy.
Appreciate your feedback, Julia! Many thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video. Interesting, the give it all away part…I have mixed feelings about it though, because as women, we tend to give so much away already. I would love more explanation about how you make the cut as to what should be given away and what should be a payable service.
Stephanie and Emmy thank you also! So many ‘right on’ ideas that resonate with me. I will share this. Heartfelt greetings, Mary Jane
Many thanks, Mary Jane! Appreciate your feedback and support.
I hear you, Genevieve! It’s important to draw the line between free and paid. Emmy responded to your question in the ABM group and I’ll copy and paste her reply here so other’s can see it.
“Genevieve, I love that question because I see a lot of people struggle with it, particularly women. I don’t make a distinction on *what* I give away, I make a distinction on *how* I give it away. I don’t sell my opinions and advice, that’s freely available through my blog, through my Notes for the Curious, through these Friday posts, through guest posts and everywhere else I show up. However, if people want me to tailor that advice/experience to their particular situation or business then we create an exchange of value by me getting paid.
To take this video as an example, in it I’m giving my opinion/advice away for free. The viewer is able to apply or dismiss it as they see fit. However, if someone wants me to give tips on their business specifically then they can hire me for that and if I feel that it is within my sphere of expertise then we will work together and I will be paid for it.
Which is the difference between someone reading my blog (for example) or being part of my Change Maker Programme. Some of the information will be the same because my advice, opinions and expertise is central to what I do but the specific value is created through the targeted application to their business, the support created through working alongside other business owners, the accountability which fosters immediate action rather than reading something and not knowing how to apply it or not creating time to apply it. etc”
And I’ll share a post about how and where I draw the line: https://www.fireflycoaching.com/why-you-should-stop-giving-it-away/
Oooh, how I love to see YOU and Emmy together! I love all of it and especially liked this part of not doing it just because everyone else is. I’ve discovered that more and more as I grow in my business. The added piece that Emmy said about trying it in different ways with the example of webinars, podcasts, and partnering with someone who is doing it already or can offer a service of hosting it for you. I always feel like some things are so difficult because like webinars they are a lot of moving parts that you must learn before you launch one. This is where the ugly perfectionist comes in and tells me I can’t manage it so I give up. But working with someone so all I have to do is deliver my content is an excellent resolution in lieu of doing it all by myself. Many great ideas in this video! Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback, Susan! I also love Emmy’s idea to outsource and get help with parts that feel overwhelming. We don’t have to do it all by ourselves. You are a total rock star on video and will be the same on your webinars. Go for it!
Thank you Stephanie and Emmy. I really needed to hear this. Also liked the advice “do what you love”, “teach everything you know” and keep trying different in different ways: podcasts, webinars, blogging etc..Just this short video has got my brain into gear!!!
So happy to hear it was the right message at the right time, Manuela! Exciting that you have ideas, have fun taking action on them.
