This short video (less than 2 minutes) describes the concept of building an audience which is explained in the book REWORK by Jason Fried and David Hansson. When you have an audience people give you their attention and you don’t have to buy it.

Thanks for sharing about reWork. This a concept I’ve been basing a majority of my ‘marketing’ time on – glad to know there is already a book on it out there.

Stephanie, my thanks too. This is also my mode of working though I must say that I had hoped it would grow faster. I wonder if there is some exponential point that when reached the numbers grow ‘as if by themselves’? …Just a thought that came into my mind. After 10 months, I have 115 subscribers to my e-news, 77 LIKEs on my FB business pages, and 77 followers (not all the same as on FB) on Twitter. Any thoughts about this? Heartfelt greetings, Mary Jane

Great question Mary Jane! Growing your audience is something that requires constant attention and I understand you want it grow faster. Congratulations on what you have accomplished so far! It’s important to celebrate all of your successes.

Here are some ideas to increase the speed. First, think about creating Strategic Alliances with other companies who serve the same group you do. See this article for more on this topic: http://bit.ly/cRO9dP.

Second, make sure that you are communicating your main call to action frequently and consistently. More on that here: http://bit.ly/rei03e.

Finally, increase your engagement and interaction on Facebook and Twiiter. I hope these tips help you grow your audience faster.

Great advice and I think I’ll check out that book! My audience has been steadily growing but I hit a wall during the holidays and I think part of my error was having tunnel vision when it came to my marketing channels. I’m now working to expand my reach – like FINALLY setting up my Google+ business page, etc. As you pointed out, it’s an ongoing process. Thanks for the inspiration!
